Once Upon a Time.....

There was a TV Film Guy that married his high school sweetheart and soon after that, had a son.  Wishing a better life for him, he was very determined to make sure that his son would find himself anywhere else accept in "The BIZ" as he called it. "Stay out of it," he would say or you will never amount to anything and you sure won't make it rich.  No TV / Video job for my son!  There was a couple of problems though; as the father would try to keep him out of the business, pushing him towards other paths.... he would frequently say, "Hey son, Do you wanna come on a shoot with me this week? I'll getcha outta school."

No self respecting kid would ever say "No" to getting out of school legally,  even if it was with your dad. At first is was the usual "bring me that" "pick up that" and "carry that for your Ole Man" stuff but before you knew it, he started handing me cameras.... all kinds and all types.... Bolex, Beaulieux (that's French by the way,) Nikon, Bell and Howell & Brownies (the 16mm type not the Colorado type). Then came cool things like Nagra recorders ("adjust this knob and don't let the needle touch the red,") moviolas and hot splicers. It was like future A/V geek heaven..... before the geeks.

His biggest mistake was letting me shoot a CP16 film camera handheld at a very young age. It was bigger and heavier than I was. Obviously the footage basically sucked but Dad used a little bit of it in his show..... Perks of being the son of the Executive Producer.... which lead to an "Additional Photography" credit. All I can say is that every cute girl in the 4th and 5th grade said,"I saw your name on TV ..............Jamey."  They still had Cooties at that point in my life but something about it was kinda cool.

....Maybe chics dig cameradudes.

....And I was sold, this was the job for me....... so I blame him.

Anyway..... Just like my hair cuts and choices in Hawaiian Shirts, I didn't listen and dad failed in keeping me out of "The BIZ" and here I am. I've had some good gigs..... and some bad ones.  Little heavier, little slower and maybe a little wiser..... maybe not. Guess I'm doing something right.....They still call me.  He was right about one thing though......

so much for making it rich

........Oh and by the way  -  Chics don't dig Cameradudes
